Ideas for Decorating Tables for Chirstmas Dinner

Ideas for Decorating Tables for Chirstmas Dinner

For many families, Christmas dinner is a highlight of the holiday season, as loved ones gather around a table to share in a special meal. To make your Christmas dinner especially memorable, decorate the table to reflect the spirit of the season. Whether you use items from your backyard, repurpose decorations from your attic or purchase accessories at a gift shop, it is easy to create a festive table for your Christmas dinner. Does this Spark an idea?

Bring Nature to Your Table

An inexpensive way to decorate your table is to use natural materials that can be found in your backyard. According to Christmas World, you can create an attractive centerpiece by placing pinecones and seasonal berries in a large crystal bowl. Surround the bowl with pine garland, holly or other fresh greenery from your garden. Use small hollowed-out pieces of wood as candlestick holders. Tie straw-colored raffia around napkins and complete the look with a sprig of greenery. Make place cards out of recycled paper and place them in pinecones at each place setting.

Get Sweet with Holiday Candy

Show your guests that you think they are sweet with Christmas dinner decorations inspired by the season's candy confections. Better Homes and Gardens recommends creating a stunning centerpiece by hot-gluing peppermint sticks to an inexpensive vase, then filling the vase with red roses. On each side of the centerpiece, drape red and white ribbons along the table, and place candy canes or red and white candy balls near the ribbons. Place red and white candles on the table, or purchase candy cane-striped candles. Create candy-inspired napkins rings by cutting a paper-towel tube into rings and then hot-gluing round peppermint candies to each ring. Make place cards by gluing a small candy cane to white card stock. And be sure to include personal messages telling your guests why you think they are sweet.

Get Jolly with Santa

A Santa-themed table is a fun idea when there will be children at your Christmas dinner. Make a festive Santa tablecloth by sewing or gluing white faux fur around the edge of a red tablecloth. Add a strip of black felt around the tablecloth and glue on a belt buckle made from stiff cardboard painted gold. As a centerpiece, stuff a plush Santa hat with tissue paper or newspaper so that it stands upright. For even more impact, place the Santa hat over the top of a large vase and fill the vase with red and white candy or ribbons. Tuck the silverware into small black mittens or mittens made of black felt. Decorate place cards made from cardstock to look like small presents, or write the name of each guest on a small stocking.
