Decoration Ideas for a Christmas Wedding

Decoration Ideas for a Christmas Wedding

Thoughts of happy childhood memories spent in the company of family and friends during winter celebrations can lead a couple to plan a Christmas season wedding. In addition to her colors and theme, a bride can incorporate her favorite holiday traditions into her wedding day, according to Your Wedding 101. With a little thought and creativity, a couple can express fondness for the season and an appreciation for their guests through the decor that they choose.

Ceremony

Check with the church or wedding venue prior to spending money on any Christmas wedding decorations. Often, decorations already adorn the venue for the holiday season and you may not need to add much to complement your wedding theme. Simple poinsettias in brightly foil-wrapped pots placed along the altar and at the church entrance bring to mind a Christmas feeling. Instead of plain satin bows at each pew, consider enhancing them with holiday plants. For instance, adding holly and berries to the knot of the bow transforms the bow from a standard ribbon into a holiday decoration.

Reception

Decorate the bridal dais with tulle and white lights. This evokes the look of freshly fallen glistening snow. Be creative with ideas for centerpieces. Small evergreen trees covered in lights and ornaments convey the Christmas spirit. For variety, have the tree at each table decorated differently, signifying the likes, interests and values of the wedding couple. A simple centerpiece involves filling a glass bowl or vase with glass Christmas ornaments in the wedding theme colors. Another simple idea is to fill a tall slender vase with long white branches. These can be covered with tiny white lights, spray painted with a glitter paint or artificial snow or left plain.

Place Cards

Use place cards as decorations, especially if you are keeping centerpieces simple, as they can add to the Christmas ambiance when set on a table. Combine the concepts of place cards and wedding favors by putting them in winter-themed frames or clip photo holders. Use frames with seasonal designs such as snowflakes and stars. You want your guests to use the frames after the wedding, so avoid using Christmas themes, especially if not all of your guests are Christian. Take a different approach with a smaller, casual Christmas wedding. Write each guest's name with a glitter glue pen on a Christmas stocking and fill the stocking with a winter treat, such as gingerbread cookies, tea or cocoa mix. Hang each stocking on each guest's chair. This gives the illusion that Santa had just stopped by and will add to the Christmas decor.
