How to Make a Display Sign That Stands Up

How to Make a Display Sign That Stands Up

A display sign that stands up can be made to attract customers to a business, guests to an event or voters to a registration. The sign should be made according to the amount of space designated for the sign. A simple display sign can be constructed using building materials purchased from a local home improvement or lumber store. Build the sign in the garage where you can work on it a little at a time and out of the way of day-to-day foot traffic.

Instructions

    1

Lay down two of the 48-inch boards, 40 inches apart. Then lay down the two 40-inch boards in between these to form a square frame. The 4-inch side of the boards should be flat on the ground.

    2

Lay one of the plywood pieces over the square frame so the outer edges of the board line up with the outer edges of the plywood.

    3

Screw decking screws down through the plywood and into the underlying boards to fasten them together using the electric screw gun. Screw in two screws an inch apart and side-by-side every 12 inches around the perimeter of the square. Repeat this assembly process to build the second frame.

    4

Lift both frames up off the ground, and place them parallel to each other with the 2-inch-by-4-inch boards facing inward. The frame ends should be flush with each other so the two frames look like one solid piece.

    5

Place a door hinge at each of the ends of the boards, flush with the sides. Open the hinges so the holes of each side are directly above the parallel 2-inch-by-4-inch boards.

    6

Screw the hinges to the underlying frames to connect the two frames together. Place two more hinges at the 1-foot and 3-feet lengths along the seam between the two upright-standing frames. Screw these in place. You should now have two frames that are hinged together.

    7

Paint or apply the sign to each of the two sides of the display sign frame.

    8

Tilt the frame so it sits like a book end with its covers open.
