They often still require special utensils, and displaying them creativly can enhance the overall look of the reception. The utensils on the finger food table should not be overlooked.

Decide on the type of finger foods to be served. Finger foods are generally served first, and should compliment the overall feel of the event, with similar flavors to the buffet or entrees to follow.
If they are the only food being served besides the cake, a larger number of specialty utensils may be necessary.
Determine what specialty utensil is best. Fondue or kebabs requires sticks or skewers, while cheese and crackers need knives or spreaders. Don't forget the basics, knives for cutting, tongs for gripping and forks for those guests who prefer them. If no special utensil is required, make sure napkins are provided in their place.
3Find the correct way to hold the utensil. Play with the display. The skewers may be displayed in a vertical box, jar or bag, or horizontally in a long basket or dish. Standard utensils can be set into small fans or clustered at each end of the table near plates. Set up a display table ahead of time with the correctly colored tablecloth and other decorations so the item placement is to scale and correct.
