Nothing ruins a game of billiards faster than an improperly hung billiard light. Instead of focusing on the balls, you're trying not to bang the light with your cue or squinting to aim up your next shot. Proper billiard light placement makes the difference between an enjoyable game and an exercise in frustration. Does this Spark an idea?
Purpose
Billiard table lighting illuminates the entire table, not just portions of the table. Lights hung too low leave areas of the table in shadows, making it more difficult to see the balls. Lights set too high create a glare in your eye, distracting you from the balls you need to hit.
The Middle
Billiard table lights should be hung over the middle of the table so that none of the illumination pours off the table. The bottom of the lighting fixture should be even with the bridge of your nose when standing erect.
Size Matters
The height of the billiard light depends on the size of the pool table. Smaller tables require lower lighting and larger tables higher lighting. In the event that lights are hung prior to purchasing a billiard table, hang them 62 to 70 inches off the ground. Worst case scenario, they can always be readjusted after the table is installed.
