Christmas Ideas for Decorating a Table for a Party

Christmas Ideas for Decorating a Table for a Party

Christmas parties are the perfect excuse to unleash your creative side. Decorate your tables with displays that are elegant, festive or whimsical. You don't have to fill every space on your table to make a lovely holiday display. The ideas you choose can be as simple or as elaborate as you need for the type of party you are hosting. Does this Spark an idea?

Winter Wonderland

Give your table the appearance of a winter wonderland. Drape your table in a winter blue tablecloth. Dip different sizes of floral cones in silver glitter and arrange them in the center of the table. Add blue baubles between the trees. Place small blue and silver gift boxes on the dinner plates, wrapped in bows. Place blue linen napkins in wine glasses along with silver floral holiday picks. You can also add a few crystal candlesticks with blue or silver candles that, when lit, will add the perfect amount of light to dance off of the other table decorations.

Festive

Make a table runner using garland. Alternate red, white and green garland along the center of the table. Tie them together at each end to keep them from rolling off of the table. Wrap the stems of wine glasses in different colors of Christmas tinsel, the kind once popular in the 1970s. Sprinkle colorful confetti over the table to complete this festive holiday table.

All That Glitters

Fill wine glasses with gold and silver beads. Alternate the glasses with crystal candlesticks that are holding gold and silver taper candles across the center of the table. On each of the diner plates, place clear round ornaments that have been filled with black and gold or black and silver confetti. Write each guest's name on the ornaments using a metallic marker. Hold the ornaments in place by setting them on a circle of garland.

Sweet Display

Create a tablescape that leaves your mouth watering. For the centerpiece, hot glue candy cane sticks around a short round vase. Fill the vase with a bouquet of red roses. Next to each plate, place a small topiary covered in delectable candy. The topiaries, each holding a different type of candy, are simple to make using miniature terra cotta vases wrapped in foil. Use floral foam to hold your tree, which is actually a sturdy cinnamon stick, in place. The top of your topiary is a frosted 3-inch Styrofoam ball covered in chocolate nonpareils, meringue stars, gum drops, peppermints, orange slices and other favorite candies.
