What Is Appropriate Lighting for a Kitchen Dinette Set?

A kitchen is not just a room where people enjoy a meal. It's a place where people also come to feel comfortable. Lighting makes an enormous difference on how effective a dinette set is at meeting these needs. Several factors affect appropriate lighting for a kitchen dinette set. Does this Spark an idea?

Room Size

Examine the space in which the dinette set is contained. If your kitchen or dining room area is large, more light is acceptable. If the kitchen or dining area is small, dim the room a little bit. The majority of light, regardless of room size, really should come from overhead and focus on the dinette tabletop.

Furniture and Room Color

The brighter your kitchen or dining area, the fewer lights you should use. This is because brighter colors naturally will lighten up the room anyway, and because they reflect larger amounts of light. If you don't really have the option of using fewer lights, consider dimmers or a lower wattage of bulb.

Number and Spacing

Use lots of bulbs if your dinette set is in a large room. This helps keep the light spread out. However, make sure that the light still focuses overall on the dinette set. If your dinette set is in a small room, then use fewer lights closer together. Ideally, in a small room, you will have only one light fixture over the center of the table, and this fixture will be at eye level.

Mood

Figure out what mood you want to set. The brighter the room, the cheerier it will seem. Darker rooms are more somber, although they can be very elegant at the same time. If you want a romantic mood, try tea candles around the room with dimmer lighting. If you want the room to be all-purpose, then stick to just plain fixtures and bulbs.

Mirrors

Check the presence of mirrors around the dinette set. Mirrors and other reflective surfaces like silver trays will reflect light regardless of what mood you are trying to set, so in general, the more mirrors and reflective surfaces you have, the brighter your room will be, meaning that you can use fewer lights to achieve the same lighting effect.
