History of Antique Oak Telephone Tables

Oak phone tables served a purpose for one of the greatest inventions at the turn of the 20th century. Now, they are antiques and collectibles among history enthusiasts.

    England used oak for furniture construction because of its availability throughout the country. Antique oak furniture can be found from as early as the 17th century because of its durability and craftsmanship.

    From the late 1600s to the late 1800s, oak was rarely used for any kind of construction. The last major use of oak was used by the Pilgrims in the early and mid-1600s.

Telephone Table and Chair Combination

    In the early 1900s, a telephone table was practical for telephone owners. Some telephone tables and chairs were finished in golden oak or weathered oak.

    In the 1940s, telephone tables were made with other wood types such as walnut.
