Boutique Display Ideas

Boutique Display Ideas

Visually merchandising your boutique can make the store and your products look more appealing to customers. Merchandising is the way that items are displayed throughout your store. Many stores display items to demonstrate their use or to put products in context. For example, set a table that you carry with dishes that you sell in the boutique. When customers see the plates in their intended context (on a table), they are more likely to want them. However you decide to merchandise your boutique, be sure to only highlight products that you carry a lot of. Otherwise your display will not last long before someone wants to purchase it.

Fixtures and Furniture

Finding fixtures that simultaneously fit in your shop and complement your products can be a challenge. To find fixtures that will display your products well, look for pieces that have shelves at eye level. Your products should not be overpowered by the fixture, and the fixture should allow ample light to reach all of its surfaces or the products will be obscured by shadows. For a clean, simple look visit a fixture store. If you are after a more funky and eclectic look mix in vintage furniture that you find at estate sales and thrift stores. If the colors of these pieces don't suit you, repaint them or distress the wood with sandpaper. In addition to being a creative solution to displaying products, you can make a profit off of them by putting them up for sale.

Lighting

Dark lighting makes it difficult to see merchandise and can make bright products look dull and dingy. According to Architectural Lighting Magazine, "A high-quality, energy-efficient lighting system can help add to a retailer's competitive advantage by attracting more customers and reducing operating cost." Add warmth and light to your boutique's displays by adding soft lighting around the space. Like fixtures, lamps can be sold for profit, so they are worth the cost. In addition to using lamps, adjustable track lighting can highlight different displays around your store. It is best if every corner of the boutique is well lit.

Vignettes

Arrange vignettes around your boutique by either color or theme. For example, set up a monochromatic vignette by displaying all of the products that are blue in one area. This is perfect for smaller retail locations because while your customers look for the product they want, they may find other items that pique their curiosity. For larger locations this may make shopping too confusing. Another option for arranging vignettes is to do so by theme. For example when displaying books, present a selection of graphic novels and with related merchandise mixed in.
