Lessen the stigma of a separate table for teenagers at Christmas by setting the table with age-appropriate decorations. Christmas does not have to be a solemn holiday for teenagers. Use fun decorations for their table to get them excited about the season. Does this Spark an idea?
Gingerbread Station
Set up an interactive decoration on the table. Make gingerbread men and use a straw to punch a hole in the top of the cut cookies before baking. Allow the gingerbread men to cool and tie a ribbon through each hole. Hang the cookies on a wire cup holder tree in the middle of the teen's table. Arrange small bags of icing at the base of the wire tree and bowls of candy on the table. When the teens finish dinner, they can take the cookies from the tree and decorate the gingerbread men for dessert.
Media Tree
Teenagers and media are inseparable. Instead of fighting it during the holidays, embrace it. Set up a miniature Christmas tree in the middle of the table and hang CDs, old mp3 players or flash drives from the branches. For a retro look, add some cassettes or floppy discs.
Nostalgic Place Settings
Adults are not the only ones who have fond memories of their childhood. Teenagers also remember their younger days and the toys and games they received at Christmas when they were children. Use this notion to set a table full of nostalgic items for teenagers. Place a small game, Christmas ornament or toy from the teenager's childhood at each place setting with the teen's name on it. These serve as place cards so the teens know where to sit and they can take the small gifts home after the event.
Sweet Table
A Christmas candy-themed table is both eye-catching and fun for the teenagers who can eat the table decorations after dinner. Fill clear jars with peppermints or other Christmas candies and insert a taper candle in the center. The candies will hold the candle upright in the jar. Tape wrapped candies in small circles to use as napkin rings. Place a candy cane next to the fork as part of each table setting. Arrange a miniature Christmas tree in the middle of the table and hang wrapped candies from the tree instead of ornaments.
