Colorful Foods
Place a pillar candle in a glass holder inside a wide vase or other type of glass container. Fill the space between the vessels with a combination of fresh cranberries, nuts in their shells, kumquats and cinnamon sticks. Make one large centerpiece for the table or a few smaller ones using votive candles instead.
Snowflake Runner
Use a red strip of felt, one foot wide and 16 inches longer than the table, as a table runner. Cut white felt into at least 50 diamonds of a few different sizes between 1 and 2 inches. Stick a small square of the hooked type of Velcro to the back of each diamond and arrange them into snowflake shapes on the table runner. Rearrange often during the holiday season.
Painted Pine Cones
Spray-paint pine cones of a variety of sizes with gold, silver, red or green metallic paint. After the pine cones have dried, arrange them in bowls or wide vases to decorate the center of the table. Another idea is to set them directly on a table runner and run a string of small white lights among them.
